Blackwater’s license to operate in Iraq expired on June 2, 2006, meaning it had no immunity from prosecution under Iraqi laws set down after the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003. by heyredditaddictin reddit.com

Nah, It probably did. Like Sgt Schultz "I know nothing" but I think that unless Blackwater had been directed by the Iraqi Government to immediately cease operations in Iraq, and Blackwater refused, the Iraqi Government gave defacto consent for Blackwater to continue. After all, the Iraqi Government can hardly deny knowing Blackwater continued to operate after the license expired.

What an embarassing way to win a marathon (video) by kevinliebrockin reddit.com

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It looked to me like the runner slipped on something at the tape. There is nothing to be embarassed about in that situation. Just getting to the tape is a tremendous accomplishment. Try it sometime. My first marathon I ran out of juice at mile 21. Wasn't a sanctioned run. There was traffic flowing, but we were running on a walking path beside the road. As I was almost at a bus stop, a bus stopped to let someone off, and I got on it. I mean here I am, in Germany, every inch of my body dripping sweat, stinking because if you have to pee in a marathon you just let it go, and I get on a German bus. The riders were all holding their nose and everyone moved to the back of the bus and opened the windows. Now that's embarrassment, but I got over it and have laughed about it ever sense.

Anyone who thinks Ron Paul will make any difference for our country should remember that the only powers the President has is (1) veto, and (2) as commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces he (or she) act independently in defense of the nation.

Rep. Mark Udall (D-CO) To Introduce Resolution Condemning Rush Limbaugh On Monday by MikaelMNin reddit.com

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Just more crap to keep the ignorant masses (I think that's us because we voted for these people) thinking that Congress really is doing something. Does anyone actually believe the crap that Limbaugh, O'Reilly, and many, many other republicans dish out? And, Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, Senator Harry Reid, and the rest of the democratic party. Decades ago I actually thought we could trust our elected people at least some of the time. Now, I think we can't trust any of them, any of the time. Actually, I don't even know why I wrote this because nothing we write, say, or do makes any difference. They listen to their constituents? No. They keep their promises? No. They support the constitution and the bill of rights? Only those parts that they can bend to support their purposes. Guys, and Ladies, Socialism got you worried? Hell, we are so close to communism it's just on the other side of the window. Look outside, it's there waiting. Oh, I almost forgot, you want to impeach the President? Wake up and look at who the successor(s) will be. You really want Vice President Cheney, Speaker of the House Pelosi, or President pro tempore of the Senate Robert Byrd, to be President? Look it up, the rest of the chain of succession isn't any better. Do I fell better now? No.

I thought the whole point of reddit was to share news and photograph, and I thoroughly enjoy reading or viewing them. Isn't that the payback for participating. Obviously, I'm wrong, but I'm new at redditing and I don't understand the hoorah about karma, upmoding, and downmoding. Say something gets on the front page, and someone doesn't like it for whatever reason, it seems to me that downmoding isn't necessary to get it off the front page, and is nothing more than mean spiritedness. Won't the sheer number of up votes for other items ultimately cause it to be downmoded? If not, then I think voting on reddit is broken and should be eliminated altogether. What difference does make anyway.

I have, I'm sure you have also. Hopefully others will. What's going on in Iraq is as bad as the Vietnam War, which we lost, at least in part by politicians not allowing the military to fight the war to win. At least we had a President (Johnson) who decided not to run for a second term, then we had a republican President, who, bad as he was, got us out of Vietnam. If you will let me go on for just a little longer. To quote George S. Patton "Americans play to win at all times. I wouldn't give a hoot in hell for a man who lost and laughed. That's why Americans have never lost nor ever will lose a war." To be clear, we are not winning this war because our soldiers are not allowed to fight harder or more ruthlessly than the insurgents. They are only allowed to fight hard enough and long enough to protect themselves. As ruthless as it is, we're not going to win this war by ensuring "innocents" are killed even if we know they are protecting an insurgent. A country only wins wars by being more ruthless, having more troops, and more and better equipment. You need all three components. Unfortunately, in Iraq as in Vietnam, we have only two of those components. The one missing is being more ruthless. I apologize for this rant. Forgive me. Its just that I am so very sick of the ineptness of our elected officials which cause ineptness in our military leaders..

What I see is a selfish person who is quite willing to ruin his siblings birthday and the day of his other siblings also, not to mention his mother, father, and perhaps his other relatives there for the family reunion. For what? So he can play the "I Know the Law Better than You" game with a store security guard, store manager, and a police officer. This guy needs to grow up. For the rest of you people who feel insulted, when a security guard asks to check your receipt, what?, when you walk into a store and see a security guard at the entrance/exit doors, you figure store management pays him or her to just stand there and look at people. No, you know why the security guards is, and if you choose to enter the store and make a purchase, you have tacitly agreed to the stores rules.

Hidden history: Black slaveowners in the USA. by moriquendoin reddit.com

All of your comments are apropos of nothing. The only difference it makes that Blacks may have owned slaves in the United States is whether Blacks should also pay a portion of reparations, if that ever happens, which I doubt very much. Plus, that Blacks, or other races or cultures owned slaves is no excuse for anyone who ever lived in the United States to have owned slaves.

Arizona Now Seeing Layoffs As The Housing Bubble Bursts by fcukbearin reddit.com

I don't feel sorry for the people who took subprime mortgage loans and now are have gone through, or are going through, foreclosure. I do feel sorry for people like Amy Eagen, in the article, who are now jobless because of the housing bust. She could, but won't be helped because we have to send another $500B to Iraq to be have thrown away on fraudulent business transactions, or outright theft. Sad to say that we are not being ripped off by Iraqis only, but by our own people and other nationalities employed by, or doing business, with the US and Iraqi entities there. Don't ask me for proof, our own Defense Contract Audit Agency has found $4.9 billion in overpricing and waste in Iraq contracts since 2003.
