A materials scientist at Michigan Technological University has discovered a chemical reaction that not only eats up the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide, it also creates something useful. And, by the way, it releases energy. by nomdewebin science

No, no amount of plants is enough to do the job on its own, though it helps a bit. More energy made by renewables like solar and wind, hydro and geothermal and low carbon sources like nuclear (instead of coal, gas and oil) is mostly what it takes to cut emissions. Solar (or night time wind) powered EVs instead of gas cars.

Where are you in dealing with the huge loss of climate change? The movie Melancholia portrays all the stages of grief: the denier, the bargainer, the ... by themightymekonin RenewableEnergy

I am at the bargaining stage: if we do enough, put in enough renewables, we'll make it through and prevent the worst. But I have friends in the other five stages of the Kubler Ross theory of grief

Frequent Fox News and Sean Hannity guest, Rev Jesse Lee Peterson, says women shouldn't be allowed to vote: "I think that one of the greatest mistakes America made was to allow women the opportunity to vote" by mepperin politics

I think the Republicans must have done some polling, and discovered that there is a lot of resentment against women among knuckledragger useful idiots that they can tap into, to get votes.

Surprise-surprise - Peter Gleick cleared of forging Heartland documents by an external review! by ItsJustAConspiracyin environment

It was never a question that he forged them, just that he obtained one of them deviously IIRC. (Not that killer fossil-funded Heartland deserves better!)

Texas utility is first in the nation to offer free electricity after 10 PM because of wind power on the grid at night by themightymekonin RenewableEnergy

[–]themightymekon[S] 2 points3 points ago

This IS storage. It is distributed storage, in heating, driving, air conditioning. That is more efficient than utility-scale storage, since it is kept right where we can all access it as needed.

Yeah, Siemens is designing huge night time hydrogen conversion factories to run at night on wind. They have a huge amount of offshore wind (141 GW IIRC) in the pipeline in Germany so they are really working on it.

Voice of America, back in the days before "Fair & Balanced"TM we DID have publicly funded media. We had a truly independenrt PBS, and NPR.

Now that they have only 5% funding from govt left thanks the Republican party love of privatizing all our publicly owned assets, (giving them away to their cronies) now they have to suck up to Archer Daniel Midlands Big Ag and Exxon-Mobile Big Oil to stay on the air.

They are competing with Microsoft which just announced a cap and trade plan within their different business units to compete to lower emissions more (by converting to renewable energy)

(The electric company in Texas is TXU Energy). If they browse between 10 and 6AM, yeah. But the electricity used on webbrowsing is insignificant, so its not worth staying up to do that then. The internet provider doesn't care when you use the web, so this is one bill that wouldn't drop

Renewable energy is not more expensive than fossil energy. Wind is plentiful at night - we just need to use it when it's on the grid. This is a great start to that.

With smart meters its easy enough to set washers, dryers and dishwashers to turn on at 10PM, or if no smart grid, just turn them on at bedtime.

Add an EV and thermal heat storage, you've got it made.
