Reddit: My son is five, and he is begging me to 'do science.' Are there any cool (but inexpensive) experiments we could do at home that would blow his mind? by mcflyflyin AskReddit

Magnets are awesome! A really cool one is to build your own speakers using the following: - styrofoam cup - copper wire - an index card - masking tape - popsicle sticks - 3-4 ring magnets - a boombox with detachable speakers to play some music!

Marathon, CC and tri are all sports that need muscle and cardiovascular endurance because they are long distance sports so I see your point there. But what about a 400m or 800m sprinter and people like Adam Van Koeverden (HUGE guy)?

ELI5 - Why do entire strands of Christmas lights not work if one bulb is damaged or taken out? by [deleted]in explainlikeimfive

[–]rt22db 5 points6 points ago

The Christmas lights (in your case) are an example of a series circuit.

A circuit is basically a power source (e.g., battery ), conductor (e.g., wires) and a load (e.g, the bulbs in your Christmas lights) that are connected together in a closed loop that allows electrical current to flow through. If the loop is somehow broken, then the electrical current cannot flow back to the power source and it won't flow at all.

Now, these things can be connected in many different ways but it boils down to 2 ways: series and parallel.

In a series circuit, the components are connected in such a way that there is only path for the current to flow. When a bulb in a strand of Christmas lights break or is removed, the loop is broken and electrical current can't flow back to the power source (i.e the wall socket) so no current flows through at all.

How much of a benefit will complex training be to sports other than sprinting? by rt22dbin Fitness

Here's something better than a picture: dragon boat racing!

We do have ergs in the gym and I have been going on it (lately not as frequently as I would like to though). I have read that complex training helps with muscular endurance and "explosiveness"?
