There's a very useful skill - I forgot the name - which grabs the enemy and pulls them towards you.

Ancient Spear. You can rune it to send out three spears instead of one.

Australian Diablo III players are currently seeing average pings upwards of 380ms, rendering the game unplayable at higher difficulties by millionsofjewsin Games

[–]mrfoof82 1 point2 points ago

US here (Boston). I have 50Mbps/15Mbps service, and typical latency for most games is usually < 80ms. When I did play Blizzard games (WoW, SC2) latency was usually 30ms if it was an east coast server, 70-100ms if it was a west coast server.

Currently in D3, I average about 280ms.

My guess is there's a lot of optimization work left to be done, that'll be seen if the first patch or so.

However, I'll say this, despite latency being close to 300ms, the game plays well 99% of the time. Think of how many other online games you could play where 300ms would be playable. I can't think of many.

Anyone running Diablo 3 on their Macs? by ABadSantain apple

27" i7 Sandy Bridge (Mid-2011) iMac (3.4GHz), with Radeon 6970M (2GB). 60-85ps at 1920x1080, FSAA, everything maxed out. It does 2560x1440 as well, but sometimes framerate dips into the mid 40s when I explode a massive horde (~25) in a single attack. Running in windowed mode (I have a 27" Cinema Display hooked up as well) is about a 7fps hit.

CPU hits about 50C, GPU hits about 62C. Fans are slightly ramped up (2000/2600rpm) but are otherwise still silent. This is an SSD+HDD model, so the time to load into an Act when starting up is about 1.5 seconds.

The Radeon 7970M is available. If the 2012 iMac has it, I expect frame rates to increase by 30-40% over what I'm seeing, which should make 2560x1440 maxed out and FSAA never really drop below 55fps. Assuming Apple also uses the latest generation of Samsung or Toshiba SSDs, we should see Act load times under a second as well.

Veyron, Aventador, LFA, and MP4-12C Drag Race by bardeagrein Autos

A car that does mid-11s (LF-A) versus a car that does high 10s (MP4-12C) versus a car that does low-10s (Aventador) versus a car that does 9s (Veyron).

Gee. Who'll win? These cars all have launch control (except the Aventador which has THRUST CONTROL), so it's not as if botched launches could be a factor.

Rolling Restarts by kezicin Diablo

[–]mrfoof82 1 point2 points ago

Honestly, I'm not surprised. It's launch month (yes, I expect more of this) jitters. Fixing crap that wasn't going to be caught until you had release volume.

When I last played WoW, my typical east coast latency was 30-40ms, with about 100-120ms on west coast servers. I've been averaging 300-350ms normally, with spikes up to 1 second.

The faster they can get on top of these things, the better it'll be.

Here's an article I found, and I'm going to point out a excerpt I found amusing: MSNBC/New York Times - Soaring college costs hobble a generation

Denise Entingh, 44, dropped out after two quarters at Columbus State Community College because she didn’t want to wait any longer to get into the nursing program. So she signed on at the Hondros School of Nursing, a for-profit college that advertises “No Waitlist!” on a billboard a few blocks from Columbus State. Ms. Entingh said she expected to borrow about $45,000 to get a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Hondros, which costs more than three times as much as Columbus State. “It scares the hell out of me,” she said of her debt load. “But I think it will be all right. I’m not going to worry about it right now. I had to take that plunge.

Famous last words?

You had to take the plunge? No. You could've went to the Dean at Columbus State and inquired as to what was going on, and gone over your options. One of those options might've been a temporary withdrawal until spots open up. Then you go back and continue your education.

Her argument is reading as if she went to a Honda dealer to buy a Honda Civic, but it was really busy, so she went down the auto-mile and got a BMW 335i instead that cost 3 times as much. "I had to buy a car." No, you didn't. You were impatient and didn't think critically before you started to spend money.

Yep. Not even necessarily a fence issue, either. I've tried to build secure railways in The Nether, with fully enclosed well-lit tunnels. Still end up with quite a few pigmen in the tunnels due to how spawning and chunk-loading works.

That's not the case. You never have to use Hamachi. Ever.

You use port forwarding on your router, and tell people your IP address. This is the result of the limits of IPv4 and NAT.

10 slowest sports cars of all time according to Jalopnik. Guess which reddit favorite is on the list? by rugbysuperstarin cars

[–]mrfoof82 1 point2 points ago

I'm surprised they put the NA MX-5 Miata on the list, as the MX-5 (unlike every other car on the list) is still produced. I think the manufacturer official 0 to 60 on the NC is 6.9 or 7.0 seconds, and the 1/4 mile is at 15 seconds on the nose (at 90-91mph). It'd be like putting the Mustang II on the list.

Trust me -- it's not "quick". I had an Evolution VIII MR -- that was quick. However it's certainly nothing like the NA, mostly on account of the MZR, despite being heavy, at least putting out 150 lb-ft of torque (compared to 110lb-ft in the NA).

From what I've heard, it's because vertical pixels are a pretty scarce resource when compared to horizontal pixels.

Apparently most of the vertical pixels nowadays are at least sourced from conflict-free mines around Gandajika in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The reason why we had the 16:10 aspect ratio were because manufacturers were using "blood pixels". There's no real regulation, but it's an image thing, so the result is there are fewer pixels available and at higher prices.

I have dual 2560x1440s (27"). I'd prefer to have more pixels, but I'd rather not get them as the result of labor abuse or bloodshed.

Used games is probably the big one for me.

First, you can't beat the selection, especially if you're going for older consoles. Second, way cheaper than places like GameStop (which I haven't set foot in for about 6 years), and you can be patient for the "adult owned" copies in near-mint condition with tons of photos to back it up. Plus at least the seller still gets a lot more from me than he ever would from GameStop.

I just got Forza 4 (complete, near-mint) and a new Wireless Speed Wheel, both for about $46 shipped, and had both in about 4 days. A new wheel from Amazon was $42 I think with free 2-day from Prime.

On the flip-side (as a seller), it lets me upgrade iPhones every other year for about $20-40 out of pocket after PayPal's and eBay's fees. I'm still staggered that despite continually raising prices, I get a US-based Buy It Now within half-a-day.
