I am considering moving to Germany, and I need some Info on Cities by lilmo90in germany

[–]morricone42 4 points5 points ago

Which part of Germany (state, or City) is the best for the Engineering Sector?

You wan't to go to the south-west (BW). It holds a quarter of the engineering revenue and a third of the car industry revenue of Germany.

What is the Average salary for Mechanical engineers?

Take a look at: http://www.gehaltsvergleich.com/gehalt/Maschinenbauingenieur-Maschinenbauingenieurin.html http://www.ingenieur.stepstone.de/content/de/de/gehaltsstruktur.cfm

And how is the job market?

Everyone in the industry is complaining about the "Fachkräftemangel" (http://www.spiegel.de/thema/fachkraeftemangel/). And it the job market is reasonably well for an engineer.

I heard around the internet that Bavaria is very different from the rest of Germany, and it is very disliked. Is this true?

That's BS.

How are foreigners treated here (or in any other part of Germany for that matter)?

In the larger cities and companies foreigners are quite common and treated well.

I'd also recommend the Hochschule Esslingen. It's reputation is very well and if you get a degree from there you basically have a job guarantee with one of the big engineering companies.

Pumping Lemma for Regular Languages? by Queegin AskComputerScience

That's actually what we used to proof the pumping lemma in our lecture.

Pumping Lemma for Regular Languages? by Queegin AskComputerScience

[–]morricone42 1 point2 points ago

You can't choose the partion. Remember the definition of the pumping lemma: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pumping_lemma_for_regular_languages

Let z=ap bp where p is the p of the pumping lemma.

z=wxy

Because of |wx|<=p x consists only of a's. So if we pump we can only pump a's and our word will look like: z'=ap+(i-1|x|) bp So z' is not in L for every i!=1, because |x|>0. Therefore the pumping lemma does not hold and L is not a regular language. qed

Just that it's not universally applicable.

Which doesn't mean we shouldn't try.

A friend offen mine started studying CS with 27. She's quite good now. So stop worrying about your age. ;)

It's all about the future of computing. You need those things integrated into your language to be competitive in the future. Please watch the announcement of C++ AMP: http://channel9.msdn.com/Events/AMD-Fusion-Developer-Summit/AMD-Fusion-Developer-Summit-11/KEYNOTE

I just realized that this is Microsoft's competitor to the industry standard OpenCL, so this is an even large step backwards for cross platform developers.

It's not! Maybe I should have linked to the talks about C++ AMP. C++ AMP was actually presented on the AMD developer conference! And AMD will intregrate C++ AMP into their compilers!

Yeah I'd think so. I personally know of 3 people who do/did that, with their age between 21 and 27 years and they all enjoy it very much.

It will take O(n) time. You only have to traverse the list once.

Masters in Software Development coming from a social sciences background? by Calpol123in cscareerquestions

[–]morricone42 5 points6 points ago

1) Would I be considered on the same level as regular computer science applicants in the job market? Would this depend largely on demonstrating my ability?

I can't speak for the HR department. But I would seriously doubt your knowledge of the basics and if the rest of your resume doesn't speak for itself, rather invite someone else for an interview.

3) The course website below seems to be a list of buzzwords and is not very specific about which languages are taught, if any. Could someone else please give me their impressions?

Languages don't matter. If you do a masters in Software Development it's expected that you are able to program (or learn quickly how to) in any language.

College freshman contemplating a transition to computer science. Need Help!!! by Daniel110in cscareerquestions

[–]morricone42 1 point2 points ago

1) How can i know if am fit for a career in comp science and if i will like it? I was never really interested in the sciences but i usually did fairly well if i applied myself.

I am a fast learner and i enjoy math. I am extremely interested in startups, technology, innovation and the internet. So this is the field i would like to join one day.

That basically answers your question. CS will be a good fit, if those things apply.

2) I haven't taken any comp science course and i have only taken a calculus course that might not transfer in the school i am going. Do you think i will fall behind other students starting the program as a sophomore this year?

The CS students don't sit on their asses all day for sure. So you will need to do a lot of work. But I'm not from the US and I heard that you don't acutally learn very much as a freshmen.

3) What do you think is the job outlook for this industry. Will jobs be outsourced?

What can be outsourced already has been outsourced. If you're better than mediocre you will find a job.

Would demand for software engineers decrease with technology becoming more sophisticated?

Just the opposite will happen. All this new fancy technology will have to be programmed. Software is going to play a more and more important role.

4) Would you go back if you have that change? What are the pros and cons of your job? Do you program in a cubicle all day or you eventually advance in some sort of executive position?

I'm still a student, but wouldn't have taken another road. Whether you will be have an executive position sometime depends on yourself. Everything is possible.
