My roommate and I, basically. She looks like some sort of glistening workout goddess when we finish (usually treadmills or Zumba), while I look like a sweaty tomato.

Local dad took his disabled daughter to her senior prom. Dad of the year right here. by FishyJoeJrin pics

[–]moongoddessshadow 0 points1 point ago

American here. When I was in high school, most of the people I know went in big groups. Some people had dates, and the more "popular" people obsessed over getting one, but even they all ended up going in groups together. In my usual group, not everyone had a date, and some of us just went together as friends, but who your date was really didn't determine your night. We all just hung out as a group, dancing like idiots.

And the funny thing is, the first time I went to prom, I was so worried about going without a date, because some of the people in my group were going with dates and I thought it'd be weird without one. Turns out, prom was a lot more fun without a date--there was no one I felt obligated to spend all of my time with or exclusively dance with.

It's funny to me how easy it is for some people to get one a handicap placard, when my mom had to fight for months just to get one. Apparently, having a chronic lung disorder that requires you to constantly be on oxygen and makes you unable to walk for pretty much any distance without becoming winded like you've just run a marathon doesn't qualify you for handicapped parking, but overeating yourself into knee/lung/etc problems does.

Real relationship problems by odderzin funny

[–]moongoddessshadow -1 points0 points ago

Sounds like my current relationship, sort of. Throw "go to a movie" and/or "grab a cheap meal out" in there every so often and it's spot-on. We're both too laid back to go out for big dates. Hell, for our one-year anniversary, we got Taco Bell and watched television.

Man, I wish we had that here. We just installed print release stations to prevent people from unintentionally printing the same document over and over. As it is, if the lab assistant/library worker is being lazy or inattentive, you can get away with printing as much as you want, given the printer doesn't jam or run out of ink/paper. It's nice when you have a class that has tons of little handouts or whatnot, but a total bitch if you get stuck behind the guy printing 1200 pages. (But it's okay, they're duplexed! It's only 600 pages! ಠ_ಠ)

[–]moongoddessshadow 13 points14 points ago

Where did you print it off? Because as a university lab employee who oversees two lab printers (among other things), I absolutely hate teachers who tell you to print off the book. I get that it's cheaper for students, but it causes a lot of hassle for anyone else involved with that printing station. The printers can overheat, get jammed, run out of (expensive) ink, never mind the fact that it causes all the other print jobs to get backed up, creating a lot of unhappy students waiting on one guy to print 300+ pages. Most students who come in and try to print 50+ pages (university policy) have their print jobs canceled and are directed to the document publishing service that works with the university. University-wide student printing fees just don't cover a whole class printing 300+ pages apiece.

DVDs with my dad and brother when we're all home. It's getting harder now that I'm away, but we usually manage to get a movie or two in when we're all back. Sometimes, I watch it with my boyfriend and his roommate, both of whom I got into the show.

Which famous books are assigned more depth than they deserve? by giamgiamin books

Part of my love for Vonnegut stems from the fact that he doesn't take any of his works that seriously. They comment on serious matters in ways that are/were profound, but never does he act like he's some sort of literary genius that should be put on a pedestal.

Now, as a Vonnegut fan, I will admit that I can't really get the appeal of Breakfast of Champions. People talk about it like it's a marvel of literature, and maybe I'm missing something, but I just didn't enjoy it like I enjoyed Slaughterhouse-Five or Cat's Cradle.

Did the same thing--took an English class at community college for an easy summer credit. The midterm was supposed to be about the hardest choice you've made in your life, minimum 500 words. And it didn't even have to be true, or realistic.

I wrote about why I quit hunting werewolves.

And got a perfect score.

How I feel waking up on my last day of University ever by ryehighsamin funny

Not at my university. Unless you have work study loans (which I don't believe you have to pay back, but I've never had them), residence/room and board come out of pocket or from federal loans. Despite that, most of my friends who still live on campus have jobs anyway, just to be able to pay for things like eating out, seeing movies, etc.

Pretty much the same thing for me. I had been on regular birth control before, moved away from home and couldn't get back to my doctor for a refill, then started up again about a year ago. It was a lower dosage than I'd previously been on, and I started have the twice-monthly spotting/period. Went back a couple months ago, asked to be put on the higher dosage version of the same pill, now everything is back to normal. Thank god.

After seven seasons of being increasingly depressed by this show, I just can't see how this'll be the one time that everything ends happily. The writers will almost certainly find a way to make this as depressing as possible. I mean, they've already broken my heart once by killing Bobby; why wouldn't they do it again?
