EA announces that NHL 13 will have the "next gameplay revolution." What could this be? by fissionmailed777in EA_NHL

[–]enkafan -1 points0 points ago

I'm hoping so. I've long felt that skating felt more like Madden on Ice than hockey. I think forward should be forward skating and backward should be backwards (duh). Left or right for a hard turn. Then forward left for forwards crossovers to the left, backwards left for backwards crossovers. Press down on the stick to stop.

So if you held forward left you'd just go in circles around the dots. Your going forwards and need to stop and transition backwards while facing the puck? Forwards, press down+direction you want to face, release button and then backwards for backwards crossovers into full crossovers.

I think it'd be pretty slick

Florida State and conference realignment? What's next, and are they actually heading to the Big 12? by jcassilloin sports

[–]enkafan 0 points1 point ago

Interesting. Just a guess or you basing that on something? People close to the Louisville program seem quite confident they'll be in regardless of them adding two or four teams.

my thoughts too. if 95% of us didn't watch it via DVR, Hulu or pirate the thing it would be renewed. But as it stands the only difference to me is going to be the day it shows up to watch.

I live in a neighborhood with far worse front lawns. Push power is definitely the tool of choice. Safer too.

I'm a firm believer that politics and atheism are defaults only to due to a devious plot to drive people to sign up for accounts.

Austin can't hire enough .NET developers. by jetstrosin dotnet

[–]enkafan 0 points1 point ago

true, but the speed school kids are coming in with Junior Dev level talent yet still expect the same salaries that people with 6 or 8 years of dev experience are expecting. Don't get me wrong, they have load of potential, but my company isn't huge on paying a kid with no real work experience a senior level salary with a resume that matches someone we could pay half what they are asking.

We'd love to give these kids a job and let them grow into that role. But they gotta lower their expectations. So if you know anyone in the Louisville area looking for .NET work with tons of room to grow working with the latest technologies (windows 8, .net 4.5, RavenDB, MVC, low level features Hyper-V, Cisco UCS automation, etc are feature heavily in our apps) in a laid back environment we have boat loads of opportunities. But they gotta keep in mind we aren't paying them six figures to learn on the job.

Planning a weekend trip to Louisville from Cincinnati - In need of advice / suggestions! by cincy_robin Louisville

[–]enkafan 1 point2 points ago

sounds like you might be talking about the Falls of the Ohio State Park.

My favorite place to do that would Otter Creek Park which is about 45 minutes outside of Louisville. They had a restaurant that overlooked the river bend. Amazingly peaceful, but I haven't been back there in years. I know the state park took over the place from Metro Parks so I'm not even sure what is still open

Heres your chance to Brag about Louisville by extrasweetteain Louisville

[–]enkafan 5 points6 points ago

posted this in another thread that someone else started on the same topic, so I'll just copy and paste here in case you miss that one:

My typical tourist destinations to get a real feel of Louisville would be these items (all pretty close to downtown Louisville):

  • Louisville Slugger Museum
  • Churchill Downs Museum (great at this time of year)
  • Muhammad Ali Museum
  • Colonel Sanders Grave at Cave Hill
  • Grab a drink at the Sealbach Hotel Bar (a favorite of F Scott Fitzgerald)
  • Get a hot brown at the Brown Hotel

Some of the more unique bars that Louisville has to offer would be the Holy Grale, an old church converted into a tavern and Sergio's World of Beer. Against the Grain is also a brewery that is part of Slugger Stadium that has some nice beers and some decent vegatarian options. For food I'd head down to Market Street and check out the "Nulu" restaraunt scene.

depends on your budget. if you can afford it, I'd highly recommend staying at 21C. Secondarily the Brown Hotel is pretty awesome. Neither are cheap though (think around $200 a night). If you are the type that think a hotel is only for crashing after a long night obviously they aren't great choices. I know people that have stayed at the Fairfield Inn and Spring Hill suites for weddings and they were both relatively nice and like a $2 cab ride from the main strip of downtown.

Decent Place to Buy A Used Car? by swinebonein Louisville

[–]enkafan 3 points4 points ago

After hearing nothing but good experiences from people that shopped at Carmax I did the same. Got my car shipped from Nashville for $99 (I hate driving anything but manuals so getting the car I wanted wasn't easy), did a test drive a few days later and then an hour later I was driving home with my new car. I have more difficulty getting through the checkout lines at kroger some days than I did buying this thing.

Sure I probably could have gotten it for $500 cheaper if I would have spent days fighting with sleazy ball managers and poor sales guys desperate to make a quota, but that was well worth the extra money for the ease of transaction.

Best bars to visit for a Friday night? by car80xin Louisville

[–]enkafan 5 points6 points ago

ah, the traditional Back Door recommendation. Listen, you've already been to the back door in your city. Lots of regulars, grumpy bartenders who over poor everything, a patio for smoking, some pool tables, and food that tastes great because it is fried and you are tanked. I get people liking going to the backdoor - lord knows I've had my share of wings and drinks there.

But I have no idea what reddit's obsession with recommending it to tourists is. It really isn't anything special and exists in every city in america. Luckily you'll be on a nice strip of bars to either side of you. AND even better the TARC (our local metro bus) is running for free all night long thanks to Miller Lite. I'd use the backdoor as a homebase thanks to the amply parking and ability to get you drunk quick, but then quickly venture out. To either side of you are far more unique and interesting places to visit.

Things that annoy you about working on your car in Louisville. by burlapsmoothin Louisville

true. i liked their idea quite a bit at first, but they definitely went the route of restoring classic cars vs a place for people to be able to work on their dailies. I think their idea minus the storage would be great.
