I can't say much about this as I don't study physiology/biology regarding this, but aren't kittens and some other mammals pretty much suck because of similar thing?

I also remember reading that this is the reason why human babies spend more time learning other things which makes them smarter than other mammals.

Damn it, this is supposed to be /r/aww nor /r/askscience so nevermind my inquiries.

Dark City (1998) by Tanahagaein movies

[–]c_megalodon 2 points3 points ago

I liked the story's concept, which I find to be quite creative. I also like the "feel" of Dark City. I think the directing & screenplay is pretty much average for its time, though. I like The Matrix as well (although I don't put it on a pedestal) but I understand why it was more popular than Dark City.

The more I hear people's opinion on it, I think it is under appreciated by most people but it's also over-hyped by those who consider it one of the greatest movie of all time. I guess that's why it's a cult movie. My final opinion on it is that it's good but really isn't that good to make my "greatest movies of all time" list & it's as good as The Matrix.

Well...most people would have the same opinion as you do & I understand why you'd view it like that.

I tend to see it in a different way, where I'm not a human being but more like an entity observing the universe. In my eyes, young human babies and young kittens are pretty much equal because of their developmental stage. Adult humans & adult cats is a different case altogether though. I guess it's an odd way of looking at it but that's how I see it.

Ah, I see. Still, I don't think viewing kittens as better than human babies is a wrong thing, as long as it's just a personal opinion. It's quite condescending to call other people's opinion with names. Oh well...whatever, I guess that's just your opinion as well.

It's a fucked up mind-set to honestly believe that a kitten has more redeeming value than a human child. You are seriously beyond jaded if that's how you go through life.

Wow. This is where you misunderstood my opinion & judging me based on your misunderstanding.

fran13r made a comment saying playful kitten is better/more adorable than babies (calling them weak & useless). I replied to fran13r's comment, saying that it's a bad comparison since young kittens are weak & useless as well, and human babies are also playful & curious when they reach certain age. To put it simply: both baby human & cat are weak & useless early in their development. I'm not saying that as a bad thing, just as a fact. Did you assume we're viewing it as a bad thing just because the words "weak" & "useless" were used?

I never said/thought that a kitten is better than a human baby or that babies are "disgusting and are 100% worthless". Even if there are people out there who think the same way, I think it's very patronizing for someone to judge their opinion as a "fucked-up mindset". It's not like people (or I) would kill or hurt a baby just because they (or I) don't like one or think babies are ugly/disturbing.

Edit: werds & stuffs

Yes, they are pretty much the same. My point is that fran13r's comment on comparing young, weak human babies with kittens who are old enough to be playful is a bad comparison. I only mentioned my lack of fondness on human babies so it doesn't seem like I'm "defending" babies because I love them.

They are manipulative by evolution so they can survive. I'm not saying it's wrong or that it's their fault, it's just the way it is.

Kittens are only playful when they reach certain age, same with human babies. When kittens are very young, they are weak and useless as well. They can't even poop by themselves. I hate human babies as well (I think they are ugly and manipulative), but I think that's a bad comparison.

I like human toddlers, though. Just like kittens, toddlers are playful, curious, etc.

Edit: So I get downvotes just because I'm not fond of babies? I hope you feel good for downvoting people just because they have a different opinion. :)

Edit 2: Before any arseholes misunderstood my comment and think I view babies as worthless & disgusting, see my comment here. Just because I said I hate them doesn't mean I'd kill or hurt a baby.

Nikola Tesla Wasn't God And Thomas Edison Wasn't The Devil by viktorbirin science

[–]c_megalodon 1 point2 points ago

Great article for people who take The Oatmeal comic too seriously. People shouldn't have taken The Oatmeal comic too seriously in the first place, as it was meant to entertain, not to educate.

If you have any common sense, you'd know The Oatmeal comic sensationalized things. That's what The Oatmeal always does anyway. The author himself probably doesn't hate Edison that much. One thing remains true, however: Tesla lived a tragic live and died in a sad state, I think it's a good thing that people are finally popularizing him. If people doesn't do their fact check and believe whatever a humorous comic tells them, it's the people's fault.

This happened while playing on a claw machine, is this why I never win a prize? by cannedtomatoesin AskReddit

[–]c_megalodon 0 points1 point ago

I did this too, lots of times, though it still doesn't work since the machines where I played were always rigged. I know because no matter how perfectly the claw grabbed the toy, it would snap open as soon as it goes back up.

[–]c_megalodon 0 points1 point ago

I have my own anecdote similar to this. One of my step brother used to go to this local arcade and he'd always win a stuffed toys from those claw machines. He eventually ended up with 2 0r 3 carboard boxes of stuffed toys from the same arcade. He told me later on that they've rigged the machine and he stopped using them because he couldn't get anything anymore. He basically told me the same thing, that when the arcade was first opened the machines were set so you could easily get something but they would later set the machine so it would drop the toy even if you grabbed it perfectly. We should all know this by experience as well because if you pay attention to it, the claw would release the toy as soon as it goes back up.

Misery of Indonesia's monkeys - I can proof that this thing is real and true by moconaidin indo

Yeah...sadly there's not many thing we can do. People don't care/know about the reality of these monkey and the animal abuse law in Indonesia is almost non existent. There are worse animal abuse case in this country and even those are overlooked by authority.

Oh, well...third world country. ಠ_ಠ

Is there any future for this country? by kucingin indo

[–]c_megalodon 2 points3 points ago

My, this is a complicated question and I think our geographical feature and centralized government makes it even more complicated.

First of all, most people outside big cities in Java have these 2 mindset:

1) I have enough, I'm not going to improve. <- You know how bad this mindset can be.

2) I don't have enough. I want to improve. But I can only improve by going to a big city and when I will never go back to where I came from to improve my hometown.

At least as a Jakartan, that's the way I see it. I know many people & heard many stories of people from outside of Jakarta who have no interest in improving their hometown, create better living condition & new opportunities there. This causes development to exist only in certain major cities. Not to mention people from rural places who get manipulated.

Then we have a centralized government who have little interest to cultivate rural places and their potentials. The easiest example are beautiful, rural places that have the potential to be top tourist destination. And yet, our government are too stupid to have an effective tourism campaign. If our government doesn't start to think that they need to spend money to get money, then this won't change.

Moving on to religion, I think for now our country isn't ready for open-mindedness and tolerance. Lots of people manipulate others using religion and the ones being manipulated don't realize what's going on. This country is in the age of severe intolerance right now. The open minded people can't speak out because they're minorities and they're afraid (of course they do). Unless our government (the ones who manipulate people using religion are mostly government people in the end) stop lying to us, we will still be a backward country.

Btw if you can afford it, international schools don't teach religion and that's a start to raise a child without indoctrination. I think it's possible, even though your child won't be able to be an outspoken atheist (at least not until they grow up).

Oh well I don't think a mod is a leader anyway. It's wrong if being a mod gives him a "I can do whatever I want" mindset. A mod is more like a bin man who keeps a neighborhood clean and nice to live in.

I think the adult goldfish looks pretty. If I have a goldfish, I'd want it to grow big. It requires more time and money to take care of, that's why the small goldfish works so well as a "temporary pet".
