:hover is just css. For instance you can do:

<style>
a { color: black; }
a:hover { color: red; }
</style>

<a href="index.html">home</a>

That would give you the same effect you currently have in your menu only using css and text instead of javascript and images.

The navigation is built a little odd.

  • The markup should probably be an unordered list instead of floated divs
  • Why are the links using javascript?
  • The javascript is causing "Projects" and "Press" to behave differently than "About" and "Contact". If you're going to use an onclick on the img then at the very least set cursor: pointer on :hover
  • Why are you using images for the navigation? Why not just use <a href="/index.html">Home</a> and set the :hover state to be red?

You definitely need to reign in the resolution on this. On my laptop, this is all I can see. It almost seemed as if the pages weren't fully loading until I realized there wasn't any content until about 700px down the page. I would suggest either a responsive design to adjust to different monitor sizes or design for lower monitor sizes to begin with if you're going to place content that low.

Basically, the images are sliced up by their relative colors and then background colors are set on the cell for each image.

Extraordinary circumstances. Thomas Robinson's mom died just hours before. The entire team was on 0 hours of sleep and wasn't in any way shape or form in the right state of mind for that game. Any other day, in Allen Fieldhouse, Kansas wins that game.

I'd like to see where he got his numbers showing that a craft beer keg will be drank twice as fast as a keg of bud/coors/miller. Doesn't seem like that could be true.

The work and archive pages aren't intuitive at all. I can kind of see where you were trying to go with it but it's really just awkwardly laid out, especially with no content on the page to start with. That combined with the scrollbar, showing that there's more content on the page than there actually is, makes the page seem like it's broken. People won't bother guessing and clicking randomly to try and view your work, if they think your site is broken, they'll just leave. And the ones who do figure it out won't be able to read your copy because of things like this: http://i.imgur.com/tJowr.png.

Whatever image is supposed to load on your about page isn't working.

You need to make the entire width and height of each navigation link clickable. The green highlights make it seem as if they should be, but less than half of the width actually is.

As others have said, HermesSans isn't a font most people are going to have.

From a UX standpoint I'd say that your jQuery slider and the message next to it conflict with each other. Your headline is "Attempting to make the web more functional." but I'd like to be able to navigate between the projects flashing on screen and also have a description of what I'm seeing. It would be nice if you found a way to rework it so that your message of functionality was still there, yet I could still get a quick description of each project and a way to navigate back and forth between them.

I'd be interested in seeing how you plan to layout the actual portfolio part of the site. The home page seems a little too basic and text heavy for a portfolio. What type of work is this portfolio meant to show off? If you're a developer this layout could be decent for explaining and showing off some of the work you've done. But, if you're looking for any type of job in the design field i'd rethink the layout and decide how you can better present your work.

Exactly this. I don't know what resolution you're designing on, but this is what I see on my laptop. The layout looks like it would be decent if it were resized and I could actually see some content when first viewing the page. The size everything is now is ridiculously large.

Reddit, what if songs were still $.99 cents, but the bands received 100% of the profit, would you actually buy their music? by bYtockin AskReddit

But they also aren't paying for studio costs out of that $.2. The studio costs are being paid for by the record company and (part of) the other $.97. The point is that if the artists only charged $.10 a song, the only way for them to recoup the costs would be to sell a very large number of records or record everything very cheaply, leading to only a few artists with the money for high quality recordings.

It's definitely a lie, but it doesn't follow his ridiculous rules. a.) You'd have to find footage of a second person who did the same thing. b.) Hannity is not a reporter. c.) Jon Stewart doesn't work for CNN or MSNBC.
