I love my S7s in powder, changed the way I ski, and they work ok in non powder conditions, but for an all mountain ski I like my Head Monsters.

JotNotPro. Scanner app, reduce the amount of paper in your life. Scan documents to pdf, upload to Evernote or Dropbox, or email. I use this a lot.

You may find an over the nose mask more comfortable than nasal pillows. I use the Zest mask and find it pretty comfortable. Keep working with your respiratory therapist on finding a system that works for you. Successfully treating OSA has been life changing in many good ways for me.

re: remote control

Bluetooth keyboard and magic mouse.

If you have a laptop open: Teleport, allows you to control remote (home theater) macs with the keyboard and trackpad of the laptop.

If you have iPhone/iPad: Mobile Mouse Pro gives you keyboard, trackpad/tilt cursor, and browser and media player controls, and customizable buttons.

Remember when controlling from the couch to enable control-scroll to zoom screen in System Preferences: Universal Access.

When we are older, we mostly regret things we didn't do, not things we did do.

So do this. Sounds like an fantastic idea. Be careful.

Are there any country music lovers out there? by kneadersin atheism

Sure thing. And I can respect the deeply felt spirituality of some of our favorites like Johnny Cash even if I disagree with it, because he walked the walk, treated other people right, and didn't use religion as a club or an excuse to hate anyone.

If you want to hear some good classic style country with a modern, smart, liberal, and incidentally atheist perspective, listen to Robbie Fulks. Check out the song God Isn't Real.

iOS5 Question: Does the Maps app do bicycle directions natively yet? by Davin900in iphone

Maps+ does bicycle directions, though no traffic. But better than Google Maps in Safari for bicycle directions.

iOS 5 feature - texting shortcuts. by taywormin apple

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Interesting, down votes for pointing out the obvious tardiness of this feature to iOS, and pointing people to a way to get this feature right now. I'm a longtime Apple user (like longer than many of you have been alive) and happy shareholder, but the vehemence of the true fanboys often surprises me.

Another feature already available for jailbroken phones: xpander. My Palm Pilot had shortcuts, why has this taken so long to come to iOS?

A fellow I knew in college is an ex-gay - and has made an ex-gay video. Particularly interesting, here, is how they construct the common elements of the coming out story as a fall into sin. Check it out. by Thrasymachusin lgbt

This is sad. Cute guy, so clearly gay, and my gaydar is weak. All this talk about being "free of sin," but didn't hear anything about now being attracted to women. As has been noted, his orientation has not been changed, and the change of behavior is unlikely to last. You could say it's a phase he's going through.

And all because of a convoluted belief structure. With imaginary friends like this (and his imaginary "Enemy"), who needs real enemies?

I just got an iPhone 4 and I never had one before. What pro-tips can you offer to a noob? by hazelshadowin iphone

Also jailbreak then get auto3G. Turns off 3G when screen is off, turns it back on when you wake the phone to do something. Turns off 3G and edge when you're connected to a wireless network, turns off WiFi in favor of edge when phone is asleep. All greatly extends battery life.

Yes, camera good for more than just snapshots. You now have a pretty good scanner in your pocket. There are apps such as JotNot that sill do automatic edge detection and assemble a series of scans into a pdf that can then be saved to Evernote (another good app for keeping docs, notes, pics, etc. available on all your devices) or Dropbox (another way to go for this). Stop keeping a lot of paper receipts and such, scan and save. Evernote also does some character recognition so that your notes, pics, and scans are searchable. Also sweeping panoramas easy with apps like Pano360.

What things about OS X annoy you the most? by nanothiefin apple

I have a beard, but I shave my neck. Pearl Jam, Reznor, Eno & Byrne all sell their music online in FLAC format. It's free and lossless and doesn't support DRM. What's your problem with it?

[–]bephillips 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

No FLAC support. There is no good reason why OS X Quicktime/iTunes can't play FLACs or the finder can't show FLAC tags with "Get Info" as it does with mp3s. Want to keep it off the ipod? Fine, but why cripple the OS?

Question about replacing pedals by pixelharmonyin bicycling

[–]bephillips 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

In these discussions about clips/clipless/none I like to recommend Power Grips. They are a less well known but great alternative to toe clips. Originally developed for mountain biking, they are light and simple and allow for easier entry than toe clips. Rotate toes in, insert, straightening foot to normal pedaling position tightens the strap and binds the shoe to the pedal. I like these better, don't want clipless because I like to bicycle in my regular shoes. The connection to the pedal seems more secure and efficient than with toe clips to me, and I find them easier to deal with.
