I also experienced it when I saw that photo. If the picture is powerful enough, I normally experience frisson.

My brother died today, at 28 years old. I've never had to deal with the loss of a family member before, do you have any pieces of advice you could offer? by Jinjitin AskReddit

[–]beachesatnormandy 0 points1 point ago

Before the age of 18 I watched 9 people be killed/kill themselves. Its true, it never gets easier. Aspects of it, like going to funerals, or consoling others does, but never the mentality.

At some points you will be convinced that you are content with it, and then the wave comes back and tries to knock you over again. And as time goes on you are like a kid on a beach. At first, they just knock you over every time you get back up again, they take another shot. However, as you spend more time figuring things out and realizing things about yourself, you learn how to stand up to these waves. That's the biggest thing, is being able to think back on the experience and associate it with something positive in the end.

That is my tactic. In my grieving I spend time going back and just embracing everything positive that I gained from that person. Then I channel it. I channel it in every area of my life. For example: One of my hs friends was killed during our senior year. We had both played basketball for years. My freshman year I played JV, and barely anyone came to my games, but the boys basketball team would always stop by and cheer us on. This kid was the only person who ever said anything positive about my playing. My father would even spend nights just tearing me down. I knew I wasn't good, but it was something I loved. So now, any time I think I can't do something I just remember what that feeling was like and push myself.

For now just find something that makes you happy. It can be something simple, just something that keeps you happy and will take your mind off of things for a while

I've realized a lot of things you would never expect can motivate you. by beachesatnormandyin GetMotivated

No I am actually allergic to exercise. I have wheat dependent exercise induced anaphylaxis. It is not common, but when I do any kind of strenuous activity, including sex and debate, my throat closes and I get itchy/bright red. It's quite intense.

But I know, people bitch about how much it sucks to work when they are sick. I just tell myself, you have no idea, I do it every single day of my life.

I'm glad to see someone who was also in my shoes.

Vyvanse is killing me. Side effects to the extreme. by claireashley31in ADHD

[–]beachesatnormandy 0 points1 point ago

Adderal has this effect on me so I switched to Vyvanse and it has subsided. I would suggest talking to your doctor about just switching meds. Adderalls come up and down are much harder but it may provide relief for the irritability.

Florida writing standardized test scores are so abysmal, officials have changed the grading scale by MadameSwankyin news

[–]beachesatnormandy -1 points0 points ago

Obviously the test is hard if kids are not passing it. I personally know a ton of people who struggled to pass it. I agree that FCAT is hurting Fl so much. It forces teachers to teach the FCAT instead of focusing on really getting the kids to understand it. Regardless, standards need to be raised.

[–]beachesatnormandy 1 point2 points ago

This is funny, because I volunteer at a Title 1 school and we are teaching 5th graders 3rd grade material because they are so behind. They fail every single test we give them.

I agree it has ruined shit, however the FCAT is not hard. The FCAT is not even standard level. The standards need to be tougher, or we are going to continue to be behind other countries.

In certain areas of Florida they are like stray cats. It's ridiculous.

Have you been tested for the allergy? I have the allergy and have a lot of weight/bloating/tummy ache problems with it. However, I also cough and get a bit itchy. Have you ever watched your symptoms AS SOON as you eat gluten?

Recommendation for Male Skin products by PeekaBooAhhhhin SkincareAddiction

[–]beachesatnormandy -1 points0 points ago

Murad is not necessary. It is def one of the more expensive lines that have much less expensive dupes. There are many options that are not even close to the price of Murads products that work just as well. He doesn't need a dermo if he doesn't have anything too pesky. Skin care is trial and error no matter what route you take, because everyones skins reacts differently and no one can predict this reaction.

Because Of Abstinence Education, 60 Percent Of Young Adults Are Misinformed About Birth Control's Effectiveness | ThinkProgress by MrFMFin Health

[–]beachesatnormandy 2 points3 points ago

I have actually done extensive research into the impact of sex education, however the biggest problem is that a large majority of schools only teach abstinence only. This means that no contraceptives are "allowed" to be mentioned. They also are normally under educated on disease prevention. A large majority of American schools are too afraid to teach sex ed in a comprehensive, non religion based way. It is a large part of politics and that is the reason most sex ed is so shitty.

STOP using sonicare. That could be causing your acne. It is very rough on the skin. Try using Cetaphil without the sonicare. It should be much more gentle. Is your skin dry?

Retin-A is not a pill, it is a cream that you apply at night. It basically teaches your skin to stop producing bad cells and rejuvenates your skin cells.

Make sure to wash your face in the shower, including along the hair and jaw line because that is where your sweat pools and can cause problems.

Alright, first you need to STOP popping, picking, doing any kind of touching to your face. You touching your face is doing so much more than you think it is. When you stop touching you will notice that the oil may slow down.

What kind of wash do you use on your face now?

Also, I would suggest you get some kind of spot treatment so that you are less likely to pick.

Also, you should go see a derm and get a Retin-A prescription. It should help get rid of the scars and I generally use it for spot treatment.

You said you body build? If you are doing it during the day, do you take a shower after?

Reddit, my boyfriend has the most unbelievable allergies, but refuses to sneeze because it hurts. by Lady_Greyin Health

[–]beachesatnormandy 2 points3 points ago

Have him see an allergist. I am the same way, allergic to everything you can see, and even if you can't see it I'm probably allergic to it. I literally fall over sometimes from how powerful my sneezes are. It ends up better in the long run because I am getting everything out.

Get a nose spray, antihistamine and possibly singulair. Also, tell him to just sneeze.

Pretty girls... by A_Durbeyfieldin TwoXChromosomes

[–]beachesatnormandy 2 points3 points ago

This. I gained about 25 pounds when I got to college and I am happy. My health isn't the best, and my mom takes shots at me every time I come home but I am happy. Guys don't harass me in public anymore, and I don't have only male friends who want to fuck, and I no longer have a ton of female friends who just talk shit about me and what I decide to do/don't do. I am not extremely beautiful but instead I was good looking with a very mature body so many many people took this as I was slutty or stupid. It was extremely lonely and I felt bad for a really long time because I was not the skinny girl that all the kids our age wanted but the womanly body that creepy old men in public wanted. It was also a huge target for other girls to talk about how I was a whore, slut, skank, you name it. It taught me a lot about slut shaming and how much it really can isolate people. These days I think everyone should be proud of what they have, and stop harping on others for what they may have/not have.
