I live in N. oak park too. (howdy neighbor!) we've had absolutely no problems with anything being lifted from our property in three years of living here. Before we bought it it was plundered expertly while vacant, but seriously, we haven't had a single problem. I'm also completely mental about keeping everything under lock and key, so maybe there's just nothing laying around to tempt would-be thieves.

I have a similar setup. It is the least expensive and coolest option I could find. I'm sure by the end of the year I'll have earned back the purchase price of the ATV2 through energy savings and not running the full quad-core machine that was my front-end before. I now have a MiniITX Ion "Server" with 1TB of storage running SABNZBD, CouchPotato, Sickbeard and Plex server. It lives in the bedroom and is also the HTPC for that Television (it's mounted to the back of the TV and runs XBMC and WMC).

The ATV makes no noise, and with the iPad I can stream music/podcasts/streaming radio over wifi (airplay) to the atv, which goes through the amp outside to my patio where I have wired speakers set up. The iPad acts like a really long-range remote control. I'm really impressed with that little black box.
