At 6'4'' I'm the perfect height to get poked in the eye with umbrellas. by jay2770in tall

[–]Chief_Halfoat 11 points12 points ago

I live in Chicago and have to walk past Union Station everyday, against the flow of traffic, so I get hit by umbrellas a lot. I've taken to walking with my hand at the level of my eye (think Phantom of the Opera).

I've developed a strategy. When someone attempts to not hit me with their umbrella, I do nothing. However, when someone just plows forwards and hits me in the face with their umbrella, I grab a corner of it and hold for a step or two so they are forced to acknowledge that they just hit me in the face.

It doesn't affect much, but it makes me feel better.

Haha. I could always pull a Happy Gilmore and try to stab a guy.

Yeah, I live in Chicago. I'll call around. I was figuring that was the answer but I was hoping it wouldn't be. Thanks!

You should probably make sure that you censor out any names.

26F4M, 6'2" Western Burbs of Chicago by chicago0summerin TallMeetTall

Now, when you say western burbs, how far away is that from Chicago? Because I'm new to the area and have no idea what any of that means.

TIL: Houdini spent the 1920s debunking psychics, spiritualists, and life after death mediums. by rhuein todayilearned

I was wondering how that bit factored into the science-tastic, anti-spiritual seance crap rest of the story.

Is it possible for a human being to swallow a tennis ball whole? by megalosaurusin AskReddit

[–]Chief_Halfoat 1 point2 points ago

I'm going to go with yes. Its a regurgitation trick to swallow and bring back up a billiard ball. A tennis ball is only 1/4 wider. Not guaranteeing it, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Local Tire Discounters shares my passions (x-post from r/pics) by nismoz33in Bacon

Well, bacon doesn't particularly have much to do with that question, in essence.

Coolest famous tall person? by rocketbootkidin tall

He's listed as 7'4" on his official website and as low as 7' on some others. Still huge, either way.

Andre the Giant. 7'4", he once drank 119 beers in a 6 hour sitting, played Fezzick in Princess Bride, used to talk cricket with Samuel Beckett when growing up in France.

Going through the south, what should I hit? by Goombatronin beer

[–]Chief_Halfoat 0 points1 point ago

Well, I can't speak to the usefulness of the Alabama breweries. Its just solid for a general overview of the breweries/brewpubs. I used it when I made a trip from Florida to Chicago and it served me well.

And I agree with EllBama... The Brick Store is amazing.

These guys have a solid map going. It has both breweries and brew pubs listed.

I could totally drive this baby.... vroom vroom (crying inside) by rumsterin tall

[–]Chief_Halfoat 0 points1 point ago

My first car was a 96 Chrysler LeBaron convertible. If anyone sat in the backseat, I had to throw on my sunglasses and drive over the top of the windshield. So I feel your pain.

(I would be remiss if I didn't suggest that your crying was due to wearing a Cutler jersey and has nothing to do with the car)

What is the sorest thing to bump your head into? by fireball_73in tall

I was a delivery guy and I was walking away from dropping off a pizza. I was counting the money and not looking and slammed my head into an awning. Concussed myself. It hurt.

Nice Pens/Flyers preview. Makes me feel good about The Pens chances. Also, I guess it really is tradition to knock Philly out of the playoffs. by ThatChrisDodgein penguins

[–]Chief_Halfoat 2 points3 points ago

1989: Philly wins 4-3 1997: Philly wins 4-1 2000: Philly wins 4-2 (Including the 5OT game) 2008: Pitt wins 4-1 in the conference finals 2009: Pitt wins 4-2 in the quarterfinals

I would hate to call that tradition. Though I sure hope we continue the streak. Especially making it to the Finals both times we beat them.

Stupidest things your boss/managers have said? by Gavgunin AskReddit

[–]Chief_Halfoat 2 points3 points ago

I was cooking at a pub in Florida. Some of the gems:

"The salsa is too spicy. You must have put too much cilantro in it."

"You've been putting garlic in the mashed potatoes? That's why they are burning faster. You're messing with the chemical balance." (For the record, the issue was that the opening cook was leaving the steam tray on too high and without enough water)

"You need to make meatballs for a catering tomorrow. It should be 50/50 meat and bread crumbs." (He later yelled at me for the meatballs falling apart)

I think I handled this quite well, considering what day it is. by long_live_king_melonin atheism

When I was forced to go to Catholic school, we called it Jeez-Its. The nuns were less than thrilled with that moniker.

Also, Christ Crackers.

Yeah. I've had bacon bourbon and made bacon manhattans before.

I've only ever used vodka to make a tincture for a bacon beer... That'd be interesting.
