Probably a B-52 going through pre-flight checks. It has 8 engines and can shake the ground for miles.

This... Those damn things are loud. I've been at McDonalds on douglas and 29th when one was taking off. Rumbled pretty good.

That's my guess. The only other thing I can imagine is B-1's flying out but they're not going to break the sound barrier anywhere close to where we would notice, and that's pretty far fetched.

B-1 would be my guess also.Tinker depot for B-52 and B-1 makes them both very possible.I'd put my money on the Lancer though. Those make me glad I moved off base early in my term.Love the lancer, but four F-16 engines mounted to a lawn dart = oklahoma earthquake for sure

Yes it is quite possible they have aircraft up and running at the local Air Force Base.

It was definitely a B-1 doing engine run ups. About halfway through the run up i heard him kick the afterburners on. The 52 is loud but the B1 is in a whole 'nother realm. I worked out a tinker for a few years and watching those things launch was impressive. When they did it on burners you'd like to think hell was about to open.

Got to watch one of those take off one day. Was about 200 yards from the runway. The world shook.

Where's that 72nd Comm Squadron? I saw a naval awacs (hernia instead of m&m top) land silent next to me one day standing there. Was blown away. Watching a bunch of fighters take off simultaneously was pretty cool too. Didn't know there was a naval part of the base until working there.

yeah i know a guy who navs the e-6's. i dont work there anymore, was working for a contractor who got booted out of their contract. now i'm in grad school at OU.

Cool. I was blown away standing next to the tarmac in front of the 72nd entrance. Lots of fun was had watching the planes :-)

I'm pretty anti-military (as a social stance, not personal). I liked from the Airmen all the way to the Generals (even most the pilots were cool). The fucking ex-military civilians though. I think they had to be some of the worst fucking people I've ever worked with in my life.

Have fun in Grad School. I enjoyed going to OU. Although graduating in the mid 90s was fucking fantastic. I can't believe how fucked up it is for people graduating since 2001. Damn Bill Clinton! I only interviewed with 20-30 companies my junior/senior year.

I work on base and and an old engine mechanic said that you know when the B1 takes off, it shakes the building inside 3001. But as often as they go out, I figured I would have heard this before.

3001 is a cool building. Probably the biggest one I've ever been in (continuous). Plus they have my Credit Union in there, bam convenient!

anything lumbering under a tolerance payload taking off over air depot is going to shake Moore. tinker is a materiel depot and a lot of really big shit goes through it.

South Okc near 89th and Western and I heard the same thing! To me it sounded like a jet engine test, but it sure sounded closer than Tinker from where I was.

[–]ddo405 0 points1 point ago

Happens often, I live between Sunnylane and Sooner off of SE 29th so I hear it all.

[–]zebraokc 0 points1 point ago

I live near 89th and May and the sound seems to be coming from the airport or maybe the ARINC buildings near 59th and Portland. The last few nights they have really been cranking the engines between 9-10PM. Nothing like trying to get a kid to sleep and the engines start blasting.

it was a B2 taking off. my father works on base and he just told me.
