obvious casting opportunities come to mind

Adam Baldwin and Gina Torres?

That would be so amazing. Just for a an episode or two run.

I think Castle enjoys getting handcuffed to Beckett way too much to hire bodyguards to follow them around...

They should, but it's TV. If they were always safe, it wouldn't be much of a show.

This is like asking why does Beckett dress like a fashion model, or why she wears insanely high heels. At least they've turned the high heels into a running gag though.

A 'running' gag. :P I see what you did there

I'm sure I don't know what you mean... :p

Except for the fact that investigators don't have to be in uniform so it's actually plausible Kate could have a fashion sense beyond homely. Ryan dresses like a male model from H&M yet we're not complaining.

He'd probably say "Castle started it!". :p

I feel the same way. Police never go anywhere alone, but Beckett does. I miss season 1 when the writers didn't treat Castle like a cop.

The whole thing where they both say they're partners is cute, but also kinda dumb.

Main characters being stupid to advance the plot? I'm sure that's a trope.

It's either Idiot Ball or Idiot Plot...

my partner constantly complains about this aspect of the show too. that's why you should watch the wire for the real shit.
